Allen Apsley's regiment represents the royalist side in the 17th Century Life & Times re-enactment society. A civil war regiment (which was ideally between 300-400 strong) was divided up into foot company's which normally went in this order Colonels company, Lieutenant Colonels, Majors, 1st Captains, 2nd Captains, 3rd Captains and so on depending on how big the regiment was. Sir Allen Apsley's was six hundred strong at its peak but would probably have only mustered around 200-300 strong the rest of the time due to desertion & disease.

We represent the Majors Company of pike & musket, that's "Major Rowland St.Leeger's" company. We are a red coated regiment with black, white & red colours (flag). The regiment was formed in 1643 and a full history can also be seen on this page. At times we also portray a small troop of dismounted cavalry raised by Apsley in 1642.

As a royalist regiment it is a common misconception that we should all be wearing big feather filled hats, sashes and riding boots, carousing and dashing with a large tankard of ale in hand, this is in fact a Victorian myth!

As Royalist's in this re-enactment society we strive to be as authentic as the 21st century will allow. Not just in the material sense but in the atmospheric as well, many of our troops have character's that they have developed or researched which they role-play as during our events. If you are interested in taking the kings shilling and joining Apsley's foot then don't hesitate to contact us.
