17th Century Life & Times can provide a varied selection of historical portrayals tailored to the venue, budget and circumstances. Our main events are normally based at historic houses or castles that have a researchable history within a17th century context. We do not stage full scale battles but re-create excellent small skirmishes or siege warfare scenes which suit the smaller or more space limited venues.

We specialise in a close up, hands on way of recreating history. The general public are normally approached by our members rather than waiting for the public to come to them, and are actively encouraged to look, handle and try things on for size. Our living history camps are a hive of activity, which include a mixture of artisans, musicians, strolling players, camp followers and military personnel who display and use a whole range of talents and paraphernalia of the period. We can provide a military or civilian encampment such as a market and if the venue has usable period structures we can provide full household gentry, complete with servants and estate workers or even a bawdy tavern.

Although our society specialises in events of the English Civil Wars we also cover the period from the start of Charles I reign in 1625 to the end of Charles II reign in 1685 not forgetting the interregnum of the commonwealth in between. Some of our highlights over the past few years have been events set in the Bishops wars, at the time of the restoration and a privateers and smugglers event set in the 1670’s.
